Moving Forward: With Happiness and Inner Strength

With so many rapid advancements, twenty first century is also clutched with the shackles of depression, insecurity and loneliness. There is no single formula available to emancipate ourselves from these self-made restraints. I am not an expert psychologist but I am a keen observer of people, their attitudes and reactions to the various situations. "Happiness resides within." We have been hearing it for so long. Only a few of us know how to remain happy with our own self. Talking to a family member/friend/close relative/ during the moments of displeasure and depression is one of the best ways to liberate our conscience from unwanted thoughts. Whenever we are engulfed with negative thoughts and people, the first monster that we encounter is Depression. We need to release from the bondage. How?  If it is so easy to do, we won't be searching answers outside and within our minds. With so much material power, pelf and resources, we have not been able to find peace around.

We don't need to surrender before the situation defeats us. When we are unhappy, tears and reactions are the only answers we know. It is natural to cry for sometime but making it a habit makes the situation more worse. So, instead of crying; think of God/the supreme power/ the unknown strength of the universe and the designs He/She has for you.

  • To overcome depression, we need to have an inner dialogue. "Pay close attention to your inner dialogue." With whom? With our own self. The most important blessing on the earth we enjoy is the heart that beats- for someone/ some emotions/ God. The reason of beating is different to different people. Talking to one's own self is indeed effective. We can be the best judge of our situation but only if we look at the situation objectively- being outsider; as a spectator. We often become so involved  and biased that we see only our own angle. It needs a lot of strength to look at a bad situation with a good and positive attitude.
  • Happiness can be found only if we start giving vent to our energy. We all are big reservoirs of courage and stability but these are overshadowed with so many pitfalls of our social system(s) and personal understanding of life. Many of us are governed by the definitions of others. What people think of us colour our thought-process. We suppress our emotions and expressions fearing these would be inappropriate and unwelcome to the outer world. Happiness is experienced when we are free to express- either online or offline. Sharing time with family and developing good rapport within one's professional circles without bothering about blame games and hurling abusive language are indeed essential to feel the sheer joy of living.
  • Loneliness is another big hurdle on the way to achieve calmness of life. We have built so many compartments around. We donot like certain people/ communities/ situations because we have been hearing so much against them. Media also shows so much of irrelevant and useless material. We should always remember that whatever costs our peace is very expensive: sleep, peace of mind and happiness. Being lonely does not mean confining oneself all alone. One can be lonely in a crowded place. A lonely person suffers suffocation of  thoughts and personal ideas and undergoes traumatic experience. He/She can get vent through music, writing, painting and other creative arts. These are certainly effective media.
  • We have to make ourselves strong. It seems an ordinary step. It is very powerful.  Remember time is a big healer. Time heals gradually and the healing improves us at the end. If we do not use the bad time productively, our psyche will weaken and we will remain same- getting affected by what others think of us. We have to create our own destiny and should not allow others to shape our thinking according to what they write or comment about us.
  • The more we express the sooner will be our recovery. We have to see through the truth of people around us. If we share our innermost thoughts to wrong people, we will do ourselves more harm. If we can not trust our judgement, for some time, we can spend time with Nature and other living beings.
