Desires

We know this well, "Excess of everything is bad." Human beings need to draw a line beyond the limits. But the first step is to have limits set in our lives. All of us differ at this point. The place where I limit myself, someone else begins thinking from there. It is all there in our mind. We create heaven and hell from these limitations of mind. These are no outer places/ spatial existences but our own states of mind. I am going to ponder oven 'Desires' today. Desires are an integral part of our existence. Our scriptures preach us not to have desires around. Is it really possible to live without desires? Killing one's desires is only good to the extent when these start disturbing the peace of mind. Desires are essential to keep us going ahead in life. But we can not carry only desires with us; these need to be accompanied with untiring efforts. Dreaming alone will make us lethargic. If I desire to be rich, I need to work really hard to make it reality. Money brings happiness and prosperity around us but to be happy inside, we have to seek peace within. For that, we need to extend our limits of love to our family, friends, neighbours, communities and countries. Desires vary from person to person. Some desires for someone's company, some for objects and materials, some seek similarity of emotions and perception. Some desire to grab others' attention. Some desire to satiate their lust for power. Desires become lethal when we cross the limits. It is so difficult to mark the end limit to desires but one who is able to do that, is the lucky one who knows the art of life. 

There are some who desire for someone's company. Their logic can't explain what they see in that person. Perhaps, it is just the way he/she takes them to a place where no one else can. Desires are good in a way when we try to become better persons to enjoy the company we seek but these need to be kept in control. Moreover, we desire someone's company but we cannot force her/him to be our companion. Desires, if not kept in control, can become obsession and cannot be cured or put to any logic.  If we channelize our desires as stimulating force to initiate a constructive work, we can work wonder and excel in life. All we need to do is; have an inner dialogue and work endlessly to achieve our desires.

Desires are nurtured not only for people; some have desire for achieving high status in life. Some desire to motivate others by setting their own example working beyond their limits. Such people who work really hard and never forget their roots indeed sparkle like a gem throughout.
